Home Care for Eating Disorders Among Adults

Eating disorders have become more prevalent recently, particularly among people in their teens and twenties.

BEYOND, in collaboration with the Center for Eating Disorders and Weight Management at Sheba, is launching an innovative service: psychiatric home hospital care for eating disorders among adults.

This new model delivers intensive treatment at home, using advanced technology and a team of experts, to provide a practical, accessible, and effective solution for the suitable patients.

Due to the heavy load on the healthcare system, patients can sometimes find themselves waiting extended periods to receive treatment. The consequences of this delay can lead to a deterioration in their condition, affect their daily functioning, and even pose a life-threatening risk.

Another reason for setting up the service is to minimize the need for physical hospital stays. By keeping patients in their familiar surroundings we can also avoid the stigma that can come with psychiatric hospital stays.

Treating an eating disorder at home, alongside everyday activities, can improve outcomes and help prevent symptoms from coming back after treatment.

How does it work?

  • A comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment, lasting up to 3 months.
  • Intensive care by expert teams, medical and psychiatric follow-up, nutritional guidance, psychological counseling, and social work.
  • Using advanced technologies to continuously monitor and assess the patient's condition online.
  • 24/7 availability to a nurse’s hotline
  • Support from a qualified group during the main meal

Who is eligible for the service?

Patients requiring hospitalization for eating disorder treatment, as assessed by a multidisciplinary team led by a senior psychiatrist. This covers patients diagnosed with conditions like anorexia and bulimia.
