Home blood tests for patients of the hematological-oncology institute

A unique service that cuts waiting times for patients and their families on the day of treatment.

At the Edmond and Lily Safra Children's Hospital's oncology institute, treatment days often involve long waits. This is because patients must wait for blood test results, taken at the start of their visit, which then dictate the treatment they receive that day.

A collaboration between Sheba BEYOND and the pediatric haemato-oncology institute at the Safra Children's Hospital at Sheba offers blood tests at the patient's home. This service, provided free of charge, reduces waiting and hospital stay times on the day of treatment itself, bringing the highest quality medicine in the country to the most convenient place for patients.

How does it work?

As part of the service, a nursing team from BEYOND arrives at your home the day before your appointment at the clinic, at a convenient time for you, and conducts the blood test at home. The visit often includes national service girls, coordinated by Hagit Spiegel from Safra, along with members from the "Rechashei Lev" association, which supports children battling cancer. They engage with the child at home, using various activities to provide a distraction from their medical tests.

Once the blood sample is collected, it's sent to the lab. The following morning, after analyzing the results, a doctor will get in touch to discuss if you need any further tests or treatment at the hospital.

What are the advantages of the service?

  • Less waiting times at the clinic for blood test results, leading to less disruption to daily routines
  • Direct access to treatment or medical examinations
  • Less congestion and improved service at the hemato-oncology clinic

Who is it suitable for?

Home blood tests are intended for children over the age of five, without a central catheter, whose medical condition allows for blood tests the day before treatment and who live up to approximately 20 kilometers from the Safra Children's Hospital at Sheba.
