Establishment of a field hospital in Ukraine
"Kochav Meir" is the name of the field hospital established in the city of Mostyska in western Ukraine, named after the late Golda Meir, Israel’s fourth Prime Minister, who was born in Ukraine. The field hospital, established to assist a country at war, came into being thanks to the cooperation between Sheba Medical Center, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health in Israel, and the Joint organization.
In March 2022, we sent a delegation of 80 staff members in three two-week rounds. The group included doctors, nurses, lab workers, pharmacy and administrative staff, who went to help a nation suffering from injuries and trauma. Our goal was to offer professional and compassionate care in response to the humanitarian crisis unfolding there.
Within the "Kochav Meir" field hospital, which featured separate inpatient departments for men, women, and children, along with emergency medicine (triage room) and obstetrics, a unique Sheba BEYOND tent was set up. This tent utilized advanced online medical technologies to connect experts from Sheba Medical Center in Israel directly with the site in Ukraine.
The hospital was operational for a month and a half, treating over 6,000 Ukrainian citizens and offering hundreds of online consultations by Sheba experts. After its closure, Israel continued supporting the country with humanitarian aid through various channels.
